For anyone doing baseball drills, it is a known fact that equipment is a necessary requirement in order to compete. Batting gloves have been around for many years, but have not been very popular until more recently. The idea behind the batting glove is that it helps to take any sting out of the hands from hitting the ball, to provide a better grip on the bat and to help prevent blistering from continuously swinging a bat. Typically, in the earlier days batting gloves were made from thin leather, while these days they are designed not only to help with gripping the bat, but also to provide protection from the bat and from sliding into a plate.

Having the extra protection for catching that stinging ball or gripping will make all the difference on the field when you are active. Although there are many benefits to having a batting glove both behind the plate and out in the field, there are still a number of baseball players who prefer to go without a batting glove. It is all personal preference and some may find that the glove hinders the feel of the bat in their hands as they get ready to hit.

There are a number of manufacturers today that produce batting gloves in all styles and sizes for everyone. They can be bought to reflect individuality of the player themselves since color and style is apparent when sporting gloves. When it comes to a Baseball Bat, not any old equipment will do. You know this if you have ever been practicing using an unfamiliar bat. Besides adversely affecting your game, using a poor bat can cause a number of aches and pains long after you have used them. Also, if you are concentrating on making up for the poor fit of a baseball bat; then, you probably aren’t going to be able to play at your best.

The good news is you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of cash on the most expensive baseball bat to get good one. Instead of going with the most expensive baseball bat possible, you can probably find what you are looking for at most sporting goods stores. But there are some things to consider.

Let’s start with the length of the bat. Though the length of the baseball bat is important, it’s not all you need to consider. Professionals say that you should also take into account the weight of the bat and how it feels in your hands. This will vary for different people. Some people prefer the lightest bat that they can find whereas there are some like Babe Ruth who used to swing a bat weighing anywhere from 40 to 55 ounces.

Regardless of the weight, a proper baseball bat should be tailored so the way you swing the bat is considered. If the bat feels more natural than others while you swing it, you are on the right track.

Some other tips to take into consideration are:

1. Tapering of the batting handle at the end of the bat. If the handle rubs up against the bottom of your hand, it would be wise to choose another bat. Over time, this minor irritation will impact your batting swing and focus.
2. Choose a bat with a large sweet spot. A large number of aluminum bats now offer good-sized sweet spots. We recommend purchasing a bat with such a sweet spot as it will give you a little extra help in games. Although in practice, we recommend using a bat with a smaller sweet spot to train you into hitting the ball with the right spot on the bat.
3. Avoid any bats with concave ends. Bats with concave ends end up depriving you of a few extra base hits a season because eventually you will hit the ball a few times off the end of the bat. With a concave-ended bat, the ball will trail off and make an easy out. However, with a convex-ended or round-ended bat, the ball will more strongly careen of the end of the bat. This should lead to a few more of these hits leaving the infield and resulting in a “Texas leaguer”, “ground ball with eyes”, or a “dying quail” instead of an easy out.
4. Ensure the Bat End is Secure: Double check to make sure the end of the bat is securely tied to the barrel of the bat. There are a number of aluminum bats out there that will have the bat head easily come off. Do yourself a favor and pick a bat that has a strongly secured bat end from the start. One way of checking this is to see if any of the bat end material is already coming apart or showing some uneven separation from the barrel end.

There are a wide variety of different types of baseball bats and companies to choose from. Choose the bat that feels the most comfortable to you regardless of price. Also, once you settle on a baseball bat, strongly consider purchasing a second identical one. If you do so, you can use one bat in practice and one in the games. This will ensure that you have a “live” bat for the games that is not deadened by too much batting practice.

Quality of the glove

Gloves made with cow hide is easier to break in but also wear out faster. Pig skin and kangaroo skin gloves are far less durable and are best suited for younger players.

How much to invest?

The rate of a baseball glove may vary hugely depending on the type of manufacturer, nature and size of the glove and material used. Low end gloves can be brought at rates as low as $50 whereas a top end adult’s glove could cost you up to $300 or more. With proper research you should be able to get yourself a decent pair of leather gloves at $150 to $200. If you are a casual player, go for gloves priced between $80 to $125.

Glove maintenance

If you decide to go for leather gloves it is imperative that you buy a leather conditioning oil. Apply oil immediately after purchase and then break in the gloves by playing catch. For longer glove life make it a point to oil your gloves before every season, at the midpoint and finally at the end of the season. If you are in charge of building, or taking care of a baseball field you are going to need baseball field equipment. You’ll need a variety of equipment for the construction, maintenance, and usage of a well-designed field.

Let’s start with the basics. Obviously, you are going to need a set of bases. There are many different styles of bases to choose from at different suppliers of field equipment. Like everything else, you are going to pay more for a higher quality set of bases. You’ll also need a set of foul poles to help mark the boundaries between fair and foul territories for balls hit over the fence.

Fencing is another necessity for a functional field. At the very least, you’ll need fencing to mark the outfield walls, and ideally to mark the boundaries from the field and areas allowed for the fans. The more fencing the field has usually means the more organized and structured the field will be.

If you are going to be taking a lot of batting practice on the field from home plate, you will want some sort of portable backstop that can be wheeled out onto and off the field. These are the kind you see used by professional teams before the game. They allow a hitter to take practice cuts and hit onto the field, while protecting other players and coaches behind and around the plate.

The pitcher or coach throwing batting practice will most likely want what is called an “L Screen” to protect him or herself from getting a line drive in the face. Infielders may also want rectangular screens to stand behind during batting practice as well if they are working on fielding drills.

Maintenance equipment is absolutely essential for the upkeep and grooming of a nice baseball field. There are numerous tools and devices used for the maintenance of a quality field, but a few of the more basic ones are rakes, drag mats, line chalkers, and tamps.

I cannot stress enough the importance of regular upkeep and maintenance if you want a quality baseball field. From personal experience, I can tell you that there is nothing like playing on a nice well groomed baseball field. A baseball glove is a glove made of leather that baseball players wear to help them catch the ball while out on the field. During the late 1800s, players began using the gloves while playing baseball. At first glove usage was not accepted by some players. They slowly gained popularity as more and more players began using gloves.

By mid 1890s the majority of baseball players were using baseball gloves. During the early days baseball gloves were nothing more than a leather glove with a little extra padding. Since then, the functionality of baseball gloves has grown significantly. Not only have they grown in size, but they have become more specialized, depending on the position played by the person wearing the glove.

Catcher’s mitts are wider than fielder’s gloves, and are shaped more like a claw. They also have extra padding, allowing them to catch a 90+ mile per hour fastball. The width of these gloves also serves as a better target for pitchers.

Pitcher’s gloves have closed webbing. This is to allow them to grip the baseball without letting the batter see what pitch he plans to throw.

First basemen’s mitts are very long, and the fingers are not separated. These gloves are also wider than the rest of the other gloves. This is functional because the position requires them to be able to scoop up badly thrown balls.

Outfielder’s gloves are usually long. This will help them catch fly balls on the run. This is in contrast to the infielder’s gloves, which tend to be smaller. The smaller size allows players to be able to easily field ground balls and quickly throw them to first base.
